The Prairies

Open horizons and changing communities

The Prairie provinces combine Indigenous nations, Ukrainian, Filipino and many other migrant traditions with agriculture, energy and rapidly changing cities. Winnipeg, Regina and Saskatoon show how culture grows in seemingly open landscapes.

Statistics Canada reports that in 2021, 10.3% of people living in Winnipeg reported being Filipino. This is one part of the contemporary community life behind the Prairies’ changing cities.
